On Saturday, July 6, Frontier Grappling
Arts will kick off their first-ever Dynamic Duos Tag Team Tournament.
This 8 team tournament, to be held over the course of several weeks,
will crown the first Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Champions. Below is a
brief write up on the eight teams selected.
The Murder (Malcolm Drake and Dom
Harter)
Arguably the most dangerous team in the
entire tournament, The Murder have carved out a path of destruction
since their arrival in FGA. From their attacks on Pat Gordon, Jr, to
injuring the likes of Jacob Demore, Alistair Mangold and Akrista
O'Hare, to running Leon Corella out of FGA and even temporarily
screwing Ryan Kidd out of the company, The Murder will not stop until
they accomplish their goal. With a former FGA Champion and the Head
Crow of The Murder all in one corner, The Murder will prove to be
formidable opponents in this tournament.
Wayne Carruthers & Heather
Halliwell
Probably one of the biggest shocks of
this tournament was seeing the announcement of Wayne Carruthers and
Heather Halliwell teaming up. The two of them have struck up a
friendship over the social media platform Twitter. While they may not
have the tag experience that others in this tournament have, the
two of them individually are no slouches. Up until recently, the
Pretty Little Texan had a stranglehold on EXODUS Pro's International
Title. And Wayne Carruthers has been one of the more successful
grapplers in FGA since his arrival. With power, speed and
athleticism, this odd pairing could very well hold the key to
success.
The Motto (Robbie League & Ryan
Big)
Despite generally being referred to as
the laughingstock of FGA by their peers, The Motto have proven that
they can work effectively as a team. On more than one occasion, the
Swag Money Productions duo have utilized outside interference and
double teaming behind the referee's back to their advantage. While
The Motto may be overlooked, I wouldn't count them out.
The Usual Suspects (Jason Marx &
Chris Tryon)
Jason Marx is a man with experience..
He has a no-nonsense attitude and is all business. His much less
experienced partner is all about bravado and showing up the
competition. While Marx may at times have to play babysitter for
Tryon, there is no doubt that these two do work well together. With
Marx's smashmouth style and Tryon's educated feet and aerial ability,
the classic combination of power and finesse could be a recipe for
success for The Usual Suspects.
Bad Attitude (Adam Stryker &
Michael Tomkins)
After being recruited into Bad Attitude
by Adam Stryker, Michael Tomkins now brings his PWX tag team partner
to his home turf. On one hand, you have Tomkins, the winner of the
Chase for the Crown Tournament and the first-ever FGA Champion. On
the other hand, you have The SoCal Switchblade, who has made a name
for himself around the globe. Together, they look to become the
first Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Champions. With Tomkins' associates (Timmy Brown, Dan Thorton and Koolstorm) lingering the halls, Bad Attitude surely has strength in numbers.
Super Mario Wrestling Bros
The video game enthusiasts Matt Powers
and Landon Knight may appear to be jokes on paper. But you can't
judge a book by its cover because these two young men can go. One
of them even holds a victory over A.J. Fairchild. After nearly a year
away from FGA, the Mushroom World's favorite sons look to capture the gold.
The U.K. Dragons (Laurel Anne Hardy &
Evangelista)
The team of Future Shock was originally
scheduled for this tournament. But due to an undisclosed injury by
Xavier Daniels, the team of him and Sean Sands had to be pulled out.
But FGA Officials were able to pull an ace from up their sleeves with this pair. It is fair to say that no team has had more success
on the independent scene in 2013 than The U.K. Dragons. Earlier this
year, they captured the WARPED Tag Team Titles. And just last month,
they defeated Go Strong (Jason Richards & Adam Stryker) for the
GFC World Tag Team Titles. Can the Dragons go for the trifecta? We'll
have to wait and find out.
Mystery Team #8 (? & ?)
FGA Officials apparently have another
ace up their sleeves. Word has it that this team won't even be
revealed until the ring introductions for their first round match.
But what is with all the secrecy? Is this team worth all the hype and
mystique? Or is this all just clever mind games on their part?
Whoever this team is, we'll find out soon enough just what they're
all about.
