While the reigning FGA Champion was not present at this weekend's DVD Taping in Hartford, CT, two men have made their claims for a shot at his championship.
A.J. Fairchild opened up the DVD Taping with a plea for a title shot. He stated that ever since his return to FGA, he's delivered on every claim that he's made. Malcolm Drake? Defeated him. Dream match with John Pariah? Defeated him, too. Fairchild acknowledged the Big Bad of FGA's talent. But he also made note that the Fairchild that Chris Q beat back in Mississauga was a shell of his former self. Now he's revitalized and more focused than ever.
But Fairchild was promptly cut off by The Murder's Bob Pooler, who took exception to Fairchild's pleas for a championship match. Pooler didn't pull any punches, stating that Fairchild dominated a weak era in FGA and went from being the "best of the best" to being the "best of the worst." Pooler went on to state that the FGA Championship is on borrowed time. In his eyes, Chris Q is walking around with stolen property; property that belongs to The Murder. And at Above & Beyond II, he could very well reclaim The Murder's "rightful" property.
Fairchild knows what it's like to be at the very top. He won last year's New Frontiers Cup (now known as the Frontier Lions Cup) and rode that momentum to an FGA Championship win, as well as winning Breakout Star, Match of the Year and Wrestler of the Year awards. Can "FGA's Last Son" recapture the magic he had last fall and become only the second two-time FGA Champion?
Pooler, on the other hand, has always been a tough out in the ring. He's gone toe to toe with the likes of Dom Harter and Chris Bond. He's also been one of few to have Kevin Hardaway's number. By his lonesome, Pooler is someone that shouldn't be taken lightly. But with The Murder in tow, he's a huge threat to any grappler and any championship. Can he bring back the gold to The Murder?
On the July 20 DVD Taping in Providence, Rhode Island, Fairchild and Pooler will face off in a #1 Contenders Match for the FGA Championship. The winner will face Chris Q for the FGA Championship at Above & Beyond II. No word at this time from the Big Bad of FGA. But the FGA Champion will most definitely be in attendance on July 20 as it'll be Champion vs Champion when he takes on Pride Champion J.T. Cash.
Check back to FGA Online tomorrow for news on the Frontiers Lions Cup and Dynamic Duos tournaments, as well as news on the Pride Championship.
