Tournament Season

Tournament Season is upon us here in Frontier Grappling Arts. This past Saturday in Hartford, CT, FGA kicked off both its Dynamic Duos Tournament and the Frontier Lions Cup.

In the first round of the Dynamic Duos Tournament, Koolstorm took on the U.K. Dragons. The team of Evangelista and Laurel Ann Hardy haven't been strangers to tag team success, capturing both the WARPED Tag Team Titles and the GFC World Tag Team Championship over in Pro-Wrestling FRONTIER/Pro-Wrestling FRONTLINE. The duo of Viktor Kool and Firestorm were up for the task at hand, though. With their close associate Michael Tomkins in the other half of this tournament, the plan was to eliminate the competition. But in the end, it was Koolstorm who were eliminated by the reigning GFC Tag Team Champions.

Later on in the card, The Murder was represented by original members Dom Harter and Head Crow Malcolm Drake. For several weeks, FGA Nation speculated who this Mystery Team was that took the eighth and final spot in the Dynamic Duos. But the fans didn't have to wait for much longer as Dylan Daniels and Adrian Payne, collectively known as the Mid-Atlantic Wrecking Crew, looked to take down the formidable duo. This spot was original supposed to have gone to the Carnival Connection. But due to the terrible tragedy that occurred at WARPED 80, Dylan Daniels decided to pay tribute to his late half brothers by taking their place in this tournament. It would have been a feel good story seeing Daniels and Payne win this tournament in tribute of the Carnival Connection. But it was not to be as The Murder proved to be too strong to beat.

On the July 20 DVD Tapings, the team of Wayne Carruthers and the newly single Heather Halliwell will take on the PWX team of Bad Attitude, consisting of FGA's own Michael Tomkins and indy star Adam Stryker. After a heartbreaking reveal that transpired over in PDW, followed by a heated exchange this past Saturday in the FGA ring, will the Pretty Little Texan's head be in the game? Also, The Usual Suspects will take on the Super Mario Wrestling Bros. Things got physical early on in the Hartford DVD Taping. The Bros looked to have the upperhand. But as "time ran out" on them, the Suspects quickly took advantage and left both men down and out. Was this a preview of things to come?

On the August 3 DVD Taping, the winner of Halliwell/Carruthers - Bad Attitude will face the winner of Suspects - SMWB. Also on this taping, The U.K. Dragons will take on The Murder is what can only be described as a dream match. The winners of these two semifinals matches will face off at Above & Beyond II on August 31, where the winning team will be crowned the first Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Champions.

In the Frontier Lions Cup, four qualifying matches took place. Early in the taping, Sean Sands proved to be capable without his former tag partner at he eliminated Anton Chase. Up next, Alison James was able to best Fable Rowen in both of their FGA debuts. Then, Johnny Karma was somehow able to squeak past the highly impressive Serena Raine in her debut. And finally, Kevin Hardaway was able to defeat "The Greatest Show on Earth" X-Spot in what was a thrilling encounter. All four of these grapplers have advanced to the quarterfinals, which will take place at Above & Beyond II (along with the semifinals & finals)

Their opponents will be determined at the upcoming DVD Taping on July 20. Up first, the demented Johnny Blayze will try to corrupt the man of God, Noah van Dyke. Then, Alexia Brandt will try to advance past Marvin Andrews. Will the Third Wave Threat be able to concentrate with both FGA and pwF forces pulling her from both sides? In addition, the Strong Style Wolf Jason Richards hopes to best the debuting Chaths. And finally, Wade Nolan will have his open challenge finally answered when he takes on Camellia D. Magna. Will Nolan inflict more pain for his gain? Or can the southern belle recapture the magic that saw her flirting with FGA Championship contention back in April?
